ABOUT THE BIIFF

Global Cinema Celebration

BRAZILIAN INDEPENDENT INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (BIIFF) is an annual film festival that celebrates the art of filmmaking on an international stage. This unique and inclusive event will be held in Dublin, Ireland, organized by STUDIOS NMP, bringing together filmmakers from all around the world. BIIFF aims to showcase global talent in cinematography, providing a platform for both emerging and established filmmakers to share their work and exchange creative ideas. The festival will embrace diversity, cultural richness, and ethical storytelling, fostering a vibrant global film community.

BIIFF was created by Nina Mendes, with the intention of expanding talent in all areas of cinematography worldwide, allowing both amateur and professional filmmakers to have a space to develop and showcase their work, without the excessive costs that the cinematographic industry demands in many countries.


FESTIVAL rULE

🎬Eligibility

  • Both short films and feature films are eligible.
  • Films in any language are accepted, as long as they include English subtitles.
  • Works containing explicit sexual content or promoting violence, discrimination, or hate speech will not be accepted.

📩Submission

  • Submissions must be made exclusively through the FilmFreeway platform.
  • Each category requires a separate submission (e.g., Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress).
  • The same film may be submitted to multiple categories, provided that a separate entry is made for each one.

🏆Selection Process

  • A curation team will review all submitted films and select the nominees for each category.
  • A technical jury will evaluate the nominated films and determine the winners in each category.

⚖️General Terms

  • By submitting a film, participants authorize its screening during the festival, as well as the use of excerpts and images for promotional purposes.
  • The festival accepts both short and feature films, in accordance with the eligibility criteria.
  • The festival reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not comply with the rules stated above.
  • The jury’s decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

🏅Awards

  • Best Film – The festival’s main award. 🏆 The winner will receive, in addition to the official trophy, a special surprise prize.
  • Best Director – Recognition for excellence in film direction.
  • Best Actor – Outstanding performance by a male actor.
  • Best Actress – Outstanding performance by a female actor.
  • All winners will receive the official festival trophy.

Nina mendes

Director

Nina has a long career in theatre and performance, having graduated in acting and directing from Dirceu de Mattos University, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1986. She won the Best Actress award at the Dulcina Theatre Festival for her performance in Jean Genet’s ‘The Balcony’. She graduated as a director and actress from the Kinsale School of Actor’s, Ireland. She is currently studying film at St. John’s Film and Productions, Ireland. She has worked in theatre in Brazil under the direction of Eduardo Roessler, Eve Sobral, Antunes Filho, Jorge Azevedo and many others, in genres such as comedy, pantomime and drama. She has participated in several
TV programmes on Rede Brasil de Televisão and miniseries. She was entertainment director at Animatur Theatre Company in 
Barcelona, Spain, for 10 years before moving to Ireland, where she directed The Secrets of my Soul (D. M. Larson) and The Serpent (Nelson Rodrigues). She starred in the feature film Empire of Dirty (Bolt Production) as the main antagonist. She played the lead role in the play Mi casa es su casa (Ian Wild) at the CIT theatre. She won Best Actress in Dublin at the 2015 ShowCase Ireland Actors Guide and Best Actress Monologues Fishpond Ireland.
She is currently the CEO of her company Ní Mendes Productions & Nelson Rodrigues association Ireland, where she trains actors with her Cross Emotions for cameras and Motions Theatre for theatre courses.

Gia Dalforne

Executive Producer

Gia Dalforne is an executive producer and art director with a career focused on audiovisual storytelling and geek culture. As executive producer of the short film Sound & Scare — selected for the First Time Filmmaker Sessions – Volume 4 — she was responsible for the creative and financial management of the production, team coordination, and scheduling. She also signed the art direction of the short films Até Aí, Tudo Bem and Padre eu Pequei, developing the visual identity and aesthetic concept of the films.
With experience ranging from set work to cultural curatorship, Gia has been working since 2020 as an assistant creative director and columnist for the portal Turn – Mundo Nerd, where she produces content about cinema, literature, and pop culture, in addition to covering events and developing scripts, for short movies, to videos and podcasts. Her work combines aesthetic vision and efficient management, uniting artistic sensitivity and technical organization in the execution of audiovisual projects.

Joyce Ribeiro

Executive Producer

Joyce Ribeiro Ferreira holds a degree in Audiovisual Production and has extensive experience in coordination, financial control, and administrative management of audiovisual projects. She has worked with leading production companies such as Teleimage/Lynx Films/Casablanca, Rafael Bastos Hocsnan Comunicação Ltda., Damasco Filmes, Boutique Filmes, Popcon Produções, and Paranoid Brasil, overseeing film, series, and reality projects, including works such as Serra Pelada, Eu, Ela e Um Milhão de Seguidores, Zoo da Zu, The American Guest, and Barras Invisíveis.
With solid experience in film controlling, fiscal analysis, and administrative project management, Joyce combines technical knowledge with hands-on expertise, ensuring efficiency in the execution and accounting of audiovisual productions of various formats and scales.

Glauber Andorinha

Executive Producer

Glauber Andorinha is a Brazilian artivist and environmentalist who has lived in Ireland for over a decade. The author of two published books, he writes from the threshold where humanity sings between sorrow and survival. He believes in stories that bloom, in voices that heal, and in the power of art to unite what borders try to divide.
